Why February is too late, why April tells you the truth, and why the restock window between May and July is where sourcing from Turkey actually pays.
The season runs on a calendar most buyers learn the hard way
Swimwear is not a category you can source on demand. Collections are designed, fabrics are committed and production is scheduled long before anything appears in a shop. If you start looking when you feel the weather change, you are already buying what other people left behind.
Here is how the year actually runs.
September to November — design
Fabric selection and design development. Mills commit their yarn, prints are finalised, sample cutting begins. Nothing is buyable yet, but everything that will be available next summer is being decided in these weeks.
December to January — collections lock
What exists at the end of January is what will exist all season. This is the window where early buyers choose first, get complete size runs and secure the designs they want in depth.
February to March — first shipments
Orders ship and shelves fill. If you begin sourcing now you are choosing from what is left, which usually means broken size runs and the designs that earlier buyers passed over.
April — the season opens
Retail sell-through begins. This is the first honest information anyone gets about which designs the customer actually wanted. Everything before April is forecasting; from here on it is evidence.
May to July — the restock window
This is where sourcing from Turkey pays for itself.
Goods typically reach EU destinations within 3 to 5 days of being ready. That turns restocking into a two-week decision rather than a next-year decision, so you can chase your own bestsellers instead of watching them sell out and putting them on a list for the following spring.
A supplier eight weeks away cannot do this for you, no matter how good their prices were in January.
What this means in practice
Plan backwards from April
Not forwards from February. Your first order should be placed while collections are still open.
Go wide first, deep second
One series across many designs early, depth on the winners once the season tells you what they are.
Keep a restock supplier
Lead time matters more than price once the season is running. Cheap and eight weeks away is not cheap in July.
